South Africa is the ideal destination for all golf players, actually a golfer's paradise. In the Cape area alone you find more than 30 courses, that meet and surpass all expectations. We are quite sure that you will, once you are here and have negotiated the first birdies, soon love this country and its marvellous golf courses just as much as we do! We guarantee three things: the weather (the Southern winter is your summer), the legendary friendliness of the people of South Africa and - good prices for green fees, accommodation and food.

To make your holiday a total success, we we can book your start times in advance and give you advice on how and where to find the best courses. Or we play a round together with you. To give you a foretaste, here the descriptions of some of our favourite courses:

Royal Cape Golf Club
The history of South Africa's oldest Golf course reaches back into the 19th century: Founded in 1885, it received the attribute "Royal" in 1910 . In 1928, it eventually found its final position in the Cape Flats. The 18-hole course has hosted the South African Open several times already. Narrow fairways and deeply bunkered greens characterise this flat course with many trees. At the holes 3, 4, 5, 14, 15 and 16 water comes into play. If you are lucky, you can play the course on a windfree day. But then you're really lucky.

Rondebosch Golf Club
This course, founded in 1911, is a "must". Extremely well kept. Some of the fairways had to be newly laid out due to the recent construction of a freeway, but the course hasn't lost its face. It is a typical Cape course with treed fairways and the everpresent wind. The main feature of Rondebosch are the sidearms of the Black River, which have to be played a couple of times and separate the fairways 10,11,12 and 16 from the rest.

Bellville Golf Club
Not far from Durbanville, in a pretty valley in the affluent suburb of Welgemoed lies the 50 year old golf course of Bellville. From the clubhouse you have a fabulous view of the surrounding mountains. The course challenges your fitness. It constantly goes up and down, across water and around bends. Quite exhausting, but beautiful. Here, an electro car makes sense. This course is one of our favourites.

Erinvale Golf Estate
Living on a golf course is the basic idea of the 260 hectare real estate project at the foot of the Helderberg Mountain, approximately 3 kilometre distance from the Villa du Sud. This Gary Player course opened in 1995. It is stunningly beautiful; framed by the mighty massif of the Hottentot Hollands Mountains, by vineyards and the Indian Ocean. From a golf-technical point of view the course is top of the range. In 1996, it hosted the World Cup. Water, a great number of bunkers and the mountainous terrain, in which all the 9 holes are situated, characterise the course. It undoubtedly ranks among the Top Ten of South Africa. Its only, quite bad, disadvantage: In season there are hardly any start times available!

Paarl Golfclub
Boschenmeer Golf and Countryclub
Developed from the old Paarl course, this residential and golfing estate offers at present 27 holes, some of them stunning. The first 9 old holes are also being reconstructed. So there is an impressive new golf estate in the making. It is very diverse and difficult, but nicely difficult.

Hermanus Golf Club
Well known among the locals of the Cape, but not so much among foreigners, this cosy "park course" near the whale capital offers in season (September to November) besides golfing also good whale-watching. When you can't spot whales in the sea, you can watch baboons crossing the fairways and pinching the balls. From Villa du Sud you get there, and to the Arabella Country Estate, via one of the most beautiful and breathtaking coastal roads of South Africa. Both courses make for a nice day outing.

Arabella Country Estate
A masterpiece by Peter Matkovich, the great designer of golf courses. It has the lay-out of a championship course and is still pleasant for beginners. The broad fairways make it very spacious. It has many bunkers, though, and you should practise your sand shots in advance. The lagoon landscape is attractive, and the Arabella ranks among the ten most beautiful courses in South Africa. Particularly exciting is hole 9, a par 4, which goes across the water or around it. It makes you a winner, if you don't overestimate yourselve with the shortcut.

Stellenbosch Golf Club
Our home club, some 15 kilometres from the Villa du Sud. The championship course, designed in 1956 by Ken Alkin, is a challenge to your skill and a pleasure to your eye. The view from the clubhouse towards the old town of Stellenbosch, the surrounding vineyards, the rugged mountains and Table Mountain in the distance - just amazing! Many old trees, a well-kept lawn and fast greens contribute to the splendour. The place has everything a championship course needs. In 1999, the "South African Open" were played here.

Spier Country Club
This fantastic course lies next to the Stellenbosch Golf Club. At first sight it doesn't look like much, but once you've played a round, your scorecard will reflect its difficulty. The Blaauwklippen river meanders through the grounds and is often part of the game. A particularly beautiful hole - among many others - is the 12, a par 4. You play it from an island and, depending on your daring, across a lake onto a fairway which follows the banks of the lake. Length 267 metres, handicap 18! The next hole is separated into two fairways by a huge bunker. On the left the just negotiated lake, on the right orange trees. Courage! After all, you have 5 attempts!

Somerset West Country Club
A well-maintained golf course in our immediate vicinity, known for its hospitality. Unfortunately, you have to cross a railway line and a freeway. Very popular with those of our guests who are still new to the game.
